The event will bring together over 1,500 high level business executives, government officials, investors, international organizations, public sector representatives, NGOs, and academia who are leaders in the pioneering field of creating market-based business models that connect private sector resources with the unmet needs of the Base of the Pyramid (BOP) in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Four plenary and twelve parallel sessions are scheduled, alongside three thematic tracks: entrepreneurship and capacity building for the BOP; sector experiences; and cross-cutting themes. Additionally, during the Forum, the IDB will be launching its flagship report on how the region’s BOP market and population profile have evolved in the last decade.

The BASE International Forum was launched in 2011 to convene leaders working in topics related to the BOP to discuss, network, share best practices and promote innovative solutions to better serve the BOP, as well as to create a roadmap to replicate and scale up these ventures.

As in 2013, when the forum was held in Medellín, Colombia (see our summary note), the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) is one of the event partners. We are working with our member companies and counterparts active in the region in view of ensuring a strong business voice in Mexico.

WBCSD members currently listed on the agenda as speakers are Acciona, CEMEX, Firmenich, Nestlé, PepsiCo, SABMiller, Shell, and Unilever.

We look forward to what promises to be a productive and exciting week in Mexico!
