Framework alignment notes
i
The details of a metric’s alignment to each framework, including where the same or similar metric can be found within the listed framework.
Forest, Pulp and Paper
C2.1 - Volume of water discharged by destination: original water source, wider water supply, third parties
C2.1 Volume of water discharged, split into: total, freshwater and other
303 Water
Partially aligned
303-4-a - Total water discharge to all areas in megaliters, and a breakdown of this total by the following types of destination, if applicable: surface water, groundwater, seawater, third-party water
303-4-b - Total water discharge to all areas in megaliters by the following categories: freshwater, other water
303-4-2.4 A breakdown of total water discharge to all areas in megaliters by level of treatment, and how the treatment levels were determined
E3-4 AR 32 Total water discharges
Water
9.2.8 Provide total water discharge data by destination (fresh surface water, brackish surface water/seawater, groundwater, third party destinations
9.2.9 - Within your direct operations, indicate the highest level(s) to which you treat your discharge (primary treatment, secondary treatment, tertiary treatment, discharge to the natural environment without treatment, discharge to a third party without treatment)
Target example
[Company name] will reduce the percentage of non-treated water discharged in the [basin name] basin by [target amount]% by [target year] compared to the [baseline year] baseline.
[Company name] will reduce the percentage of non-treated water discharged in the [basin name] basin, which is classified as water-stressed, by [target amount]% by [target year] compared to the [baseline year] baseline.
Target Source: WBCSD target template
Additional target notes
This target should be applied to its relevant industrial context, and applies only to water that requires treatment before discharge due to the relevant monitoring parameters (e.g., temperature, pH, chemical and biological composition) that exceed acceptable thresholds for that parameter the receiving basin. Water that already meets relevant discharge standards without treatment is excluded from this target.
