Product Portfolio Resilience & Innovation Accelerator (PPRIA)
Published: September 22, 2026
Turning product impacts into portfolio decisions that drive business performance
Almost every company has a sustainability strategy and many have product-level data and tools. Yet few can connect product impacts to the portfolio decisions that matter, including capital allocation, innovation, sourcing and commercial strategy.
This is not a data gap – it is a governance gap. Without a consistent way to translate sustainability impacts into financial risks and opportunities, companies can struggle to prioritize action, direct investment and build more resilient product portfolios.
The Product Portfolio Resilience and Innovation Accelerator (PPRIA) helps close this gap. It provides a shared, credible and globally applicable method for turning product and value-chain level sustainability data into portfolio-level financial insights. This gives companies a baseline for resilience and innovation, while providing financial markets with a more consistent and comparable basis for assessing sustainability performance.
PPRIA draws on a decade of practice and two years of co-creation and real-world testing with 25 companies and more than 60 experts. The work was facilitated by WBCSD with Accenture as lead partner.

Volatile supply chains, shifting customer expectations, tighter regulation, climate change and nature loss are changing the economics of product portfolios. The advantage will lie with companies who can see where value is being created or eroded, and who can act.
PPRIA helps companies:
- Translate product-level impacts into financial risks and opportunities
- Decide which products to scale, improve, transform or divest
- Direct capital and innovation toward long-term resilience
- Create a credible, comparable reference that helps financial markets assess sustainability performance
Four steps, run as a continuous cycle:
- Scope and segment the portfolio
- Assess environmental & social impacts across all the value chain stages and five themes: climate, nature, social, circular economy and product safety
- Translate those impacts into business opportunities and risks
- Integrate the results into portfolio, capital allocation and innovation decisions
The method is sector and geographically agnostic and can be used at any stage of data maturity. An adoption ladder takes companies from entry to leading practice; the starting point matters less than the commitment to progress.
PPRIA is designed for people and functions that own and shape product portfolios. Its key differentiators include:
- A shared fact base for all functions involved in shaping product portfolios
- Connects product and value chain-level impacts to portfolio decisions – capital, innovation, sourcing, customer engagement
- Translates environmental and social impacts into financial materiality
- Holistic with no offsetting, it surfaces trade-offs, invites prioritization and break siloes
- Applicable to any level of maturity, it starts where the company is and sharpens over time
- One common, comparable, credible framework across sectors
- Co-developed and pilot-tested with and for business
PPRIA provides a pathway for companies seeking to make sustainability an integral part of how products, investments and innovation priorities are managed.
