Victor Blanco Gonzalez leads WBCSD’s work with members and partners to integrate sustainability‑related risks into enterprise risk management, strategy, governance, and capital allocation. He drives key strategic initiatives that position risk management – especially physical risks from climate change and environmental degradation – as core drivers of corporate performance and accountability across value chains to enhance member resilience, sustainable growth and competitive advantage. Victor joined WBCSD in May 2026.
Victor has 15+ years of international experience strengthening forward-looking decision-making and building resilience across (re)insurance, InsurTech, development cooperation, and public institutions, with strong focus in physical risk. Throughout, he has led initiatives that bridge technical risk insight with executive decision-making, consistently working to elevate sustainability-related risks to strategic organisational priorities.
Examples include leading strategic initiatives at Swiss Re to manage emerging risks, explore business opportunities, advise corporate clients, and shape business strategy, as well as running global underwriting governance; advising governments on climate resilience for the OECD; co-creating insurance and investment solutions at a for-impact venture studio; or leading a science-technology-policy programme and international research on climate resilience and future mobility at ETH Zurich.
An environmental scientist by training, he holds a PhD from the University of Edinburgh, an MSc from the University of Göttingen and Lincoln University in New Zealand, and a BSc from the Autonomous University of Madrid.
A Spanish national, Victor has lived and worked across four continents, and currently calls Zurich home.
