Organization: Permian Global
Date: 17 September
Time: 9-10am Brasilia / 2-3pm CEST
In 2024, extreme heat led to Amazon wildfires burning an area the size of California. These fires threaten local communities and accelerate climate change
by damaging biodiverse forests.
Fire mitigation is now a priority in conservation, with organizations like Permian Brasil employing local planning, satellite monitoring, and trained teams for prevention and response.
An upcoming Natural Climate Solutions Alliance webinar with Permian Brasil will cover strategies for forest protection, the role of technology and collaboration, and the latest challenges in defending communities and ecosystems from fire.

Time: 9-10am Brasilia / 2-3pm CEST
Capacity building often implies a one-way flow of information, typically from the Global North to the Global South. However, this approach misses the crucial
exchange of knowledge needed for effective engagement and carbon credit system design. This webinar features COIAB and ART's efforts to promote mutual learning through:
Joint ART-COIAB workshops for Amazon Indigenous leaders covering REDD+, Jurisdictional Programs, carbon credits, and market participation.
COIAB’s role in ART expert committees, contributing to the Beyond Carbon Benefits certification and reviewing the TREES standard via the IPLC Advisory Group.

As Brazil advances Jurisdictional REDD+ (JREDD+) efforts, maintaining "high integrity" depends on upholding Indigenous Peoples’ and Local Communities’
rights and investing in meaningful engagement.
This event will explore how Indigenous Peoples in Pará, Mato Grosso, and Acre are engaging with JREDD+. What does "high integrity" mean for them, and how do their approaches differ?. The discussion will also explore ways these Indigenous-led efforts may strengthen carbon market integrity in Brazil and globally, and how NCSA members can support them.
