Proteins are an essential part of everyone’s diet and the production of protein-rich animals and plants has tremendous impacts on our Planet. A different approach to protein production and consumption is necessary, not only to reduce the negative impacts, but also to deliver significant positive impacts for people and the planet.

In order to deliver the protein revolution, business needs to take action along key transformation pathways with specific targets. To support companies from fork to farm’ in this revolution, WBCSD’s project FReSH launched two papers at the WEF Annual Meeting in January 2020: ‘Protein Pathways: Accelerating sustainable transformation through business innovation’ and ‘Plant Proteins: a key lever to accelerate food system transformation’. These two papers demonstrate the need for a protein revolution and propose concrete actions to transform agriculture and shift diets in relation to animal- and plant-based protein.
