Financing Nature-based Solutions for Business Resilience

Introduction

We bring together corporates in land-based value chains and investors to turn nature-related risks into investment opportunities and scale nature-based solutions across landscapes. We focus on actions that go beyond the value chain to build resilience at the landscape level.

Financing Nature-based Solutions

Why This Matters

The Challenge

Nature-related risks are increasingly material to business performance, affecting water availability, land productivity, and exposure to flooding and erosion across supply chains. Yet most of these risks arise at a landscape scale and cannot be managed by individual companies alone.

Despite this, investment in landscape-level nature-based solutions remains far below what is needed. Companies and investors face persistent barriers, including limited understanding of physical risks, uncertainty in metrics and valuation, a lack of suitable financing structures, and insufficient policy incentives to support action.

The Business Case

Business resilience increasingly depends on the health of ecosystems beyond company boundaries. Addressing nature-related risks requires a shift from managing impacts within operations to actively investing in the resilience of the landscapes that underpin long-term value creation. Nature-based solutions are strategic investments to strengthen supply chain stability, support climate adaptation and long-term value creation - reducing exposure to physical risks that no single actor can manage alone.

The Solution

The workstream brings together corporates and investors to unlock investment in nature-based solutions by  equipping corporates and investors with practical metrics, credible financial models, and opportunities to collaborate around shared landscape challenges. This enables them to translate nature-related risks into investable solutions and scale investment in ecosystem protection, restoration, and sustainable management.

Priority Areas

Our work brings together corporates, investors, and partners to enable a step change in how nature-related risks are understood and addressed, focusing on three areas:

Build investment readiness

We equip corporates and investors to understand and assess nature-related risks and translate them into clear, investment-ready opportunities.

  • Assess ecosystem dependencies and landscape-level risk exposure
  • Understand economic impacts of ecosystem degradation
  • Develop practical approaches to NbS valuation and decision-making
  • Align accounting and target-setting frameworks with landscape action
  • Strengthen the evidence base for investment

Enable collaboration and pre-investment action

We bring together corporates, investors, and partners to structure landscape-level solutions, turning shared risks into aligned investment approaches and pre-investment pipelines.

  • Convene corporates, investors, and implementation partners
  • Co-develop landscape-level financing approaches
  • Facilitate collaboration across value chains
  • Structure credible, investable NbS opportunities

Drive uptake and market scale

We support the uptake and replication of solutions by shaping policy, advancing common frameworks, and sharing practical tools and insights to unlock investment at scale.

  • Codify learning into practical tools, playbooks, and case studies
  • Contribute to policy and standard-setting processes
  • Share insights through global and regional engagement
  • Strengthen enabling conditions for landscape-level investment

What members gain:

Members gain the capabilities and connections needed to turn nature-related risks into investment opportunities and drive action across land-based value chains:

  • Strengthen investment decisions
Better recognize nature-related risks and understand how they impact operations, supply chains, and long-term resilience
  • Develop investable solutions
Move from risk analysis to structuring viable nature-based solutions aligned with business and financial priorities
  • Access emerging opportunities
Engage in the development of landscape-level approaches and pre-investment pipelines
