Business brief: Upcoming UN treaty on plastic pollution

On 2 March 2022, at the resumed fifth session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-5.2), member states adopted a resolution: End plastic pollution: towards an international legally binding instrument. This resolution requests that the UNEP Executive Director convenes an Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) to develop a legally binding instrument on plastic pollution, including in the marine environment.
