Introduction
Policy & Advocacy at WBCSD empowers members to foster coherent, forward-looking policy engagement that supports their goals.
WBCSD provides members with timely intelligence and strategic insights, amplifying the voice of business and enabling collective action around major policy moments, through targeted public-private collaboration, and in members’ own direct and indirect policy engagement.
The
Challenge
Transition pathways for achieving climate, nature, and people goals are becoming more defined. Businesses and governments increasingly recognize their mutual dependence in driving the shift toward a competitive, resilient, and sustainable global economy.
To succeed, businesses need predictable policies that enable long-term planning and investment in developing and scaling innovative solutions. These can include regulations, subsidies, public procurement, and carbon pricing. At the same time, governments rely on the private sector to implement these policies and to mobilize investment in mitigation and adaptation.
Yet, despite this shared understanding, most businesses and governments are still not working together at the scale required to drive systemic, economy-wide change.
The
Solution
The world is reaching positive and negative tipping points of transformation. Seven out of nine planetary boundaries have been crossed at a time when renewable energy and electric vehicles are being deployed at record rates.
As businesses and governments grapple with these exponential changes as core strategic and economic risks and opportunities, incentives are aligning. New approaches for the private and public sector to work together on their dependencies are emerging. These can help businesses and governments unlock progress in the transition and drive market creation, value and jobs.
WBCSD works with members to catalyze engagement between the public and private sectors at three levels.
How We Engage
How We Engage
Enabling members to align their own direct and indirect policy engagement with their corporate sustainability goals, leveraging positive policy engagement as a driver of business transformation.
Elevating the ambitious business voice globally and building partnerships to enable members to engage with groups of governments on topics dependent on international cooperation.
Targeted convenings between members and governments to co-design solutions to shared missions at a national or regional level. This includes our CO_LAB regional collective action and investment projects.
