Beijing, 18 April 2019: The China Business Council for Sustainable Development (CBCSD), recently held its 15th Conference, with a focus on the latest trends in sustainable development.

CBCSD is WBCSD’s Global Network partner in China.

Since its establishment in 2003, CBCSD has been committed to this key event, which has become an outstanding opportunity for businesses and people to gain an in-depth understanding of national macro-policies, trends and focal points on sustainable development, and comprehensive discussion around best practice in the business sector.

This year’s event also saw the release of the 2018 annual report of the China Corporate Sustainability Index. As WBCSD President and CEO Peter Bakker said in a video message for the 180 attendees: “CBCSD began this important work over two years ago, and I am glad to see this index gaining more and more influence in the Chinese business community.”

As strategic partners, WBCSD and CBCSD are committed to long-term cooperation in corporate sustainability. This cooperation has gathered momentum recently: there is an engagement with the city of Xiong’an in the context of WBCSD’s Low Emissions Economy Partnership, a strategic initiative to bring together a cross-sectoral group of companies and some selected cities to jointly drive greenhouse gas emissions reduction projects through a new type of public-private partnership. Furthermore, there is a joint effort to support the Belt and Road Initiative in view of transforming it to a “Green Belt & Road Initiative” integrating positive impact on environment and social cohesion.

CBCSD and WBCSD look forward to continuing their fruitful cooperation, especially in the lead-up to the COP 15 of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity which will be held in China in 2020.
