Geneva, 15 June 2020: The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) today launched a new comprehensive guide for corporate electric vehicle (EV) fleet adoption, to help companies accelerate their transition to sustainable, electric mobility.

The devastating effects of COVID-19 on mobility have highlighted the need for vehicles and transportation systems that are resilient to future shocks. At the same time, city lockdowns and the absence of polluting vehicles on our streets have led to radical improvements in air quality. Many cities are eager to make these changes permanent and as governments around the world announce massive stimulus packages with incentives for electric vehicles, now is the time to invest in a better tomorrow.

WBCSD, together with member companies Eaton, EDP, Enel, Guidehouse, LeasePlan, Mahindra, Michelin, Nissan, Solvay and UPS, have developed the Corporate EV Adoption Guide to support companies in making their EV fleet transition as seamless as possible. The guide features the most up-to-date and geographically-relevant information resources on EV technologies, clear steps to take in planning and adopting an EV fleet and an overview of best practices and learnings provided by companies who have already undergone their fleet transitions.

“COVID-19 underlined society’s need for resilience and shock preparedness. The crisis is also pushing countries, cities and leading businesses to ramp up efforts to decarbonize” said Thomas Deloison, Director of Mobility at WBCSD. “Going electric makes economic sense today, and will soon be a pre-condition to operate in cities where zero emission zones will be the norm. WBCSD’s online guide will accompany business in their transition to low carbon mobility and bolster the business response to the climate emergency.”

Bringing together practical experiences and specific expertise in EV fleet transition, from a wide range of industry and global perspectives, the Corporate EV Adoption Guide will support companies in making the right decisions and ensure that their money is spent wisely when switching to electric fleets.

“The adoption of electric vehicles by corporate fleets is an essential part of tackling the emissions challenges that society faces, but it can be a daunting task” said Peter Harris, International Sustainability Director at UPS. “This guide shows how to proceed, thoroughly but clearly, even dispelling some myths along the way.”

WBCSD’s ambition is to create a one-stop for all companies that wish to electrify their fleets. The guide will therefore be updated regularly to feature the newest resources and guidelines for EV adoption. We encourage all companies interested in sustainable mobility to explore the guide and to contact us for further engagement in our wider Emobility work.
