Introduction
The built environment is where we live, work and spend our free time. It is a primary employer, representing a significant share of national wealth.
However, it also accounts for 40% of global carbon emissions, over 30% of global final energy use and consumes nearly half of the world’s natural resources. We need to urgently cut emissions from the built environment and change how we design and construct buildings to successfully respond to the climate crisis, nature loss and growing inequality. WBCSD brings together leading companies from across the value chain to transform the built environment towards one that is net zero-emissions, circular, healthy, inclusive and resilient.
