Background information

BCSD Taiwan is a non-profit business organization with more than sixty members from leading business in Taiwan. BCSD Taiwan joined the Global Network of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) shortly after its establishment in 1997. Our mission is to assist Taiwanese business to build a clear roadmap for corporate sustainability. In recent year, BCSD Taiwan has been focusing on:

  • Ÿ   Business Actions on Climate Change initiatives (BACCi): a business initiative aiming for corporate climate commitments and climate actions;
  • Ÿ   Sustainable Finance: SASB application research, ERM to ESG risks, Taiwan Sustainable Finance Forum;
  • Ÿ   Natural Capital: publication of Natural Capital Protocol (NPC) tradional Chinese version and pilot project; and
  • Ÿ   Circular Economy: introduction of CTI and pilot project.

Jonney Shih, the Chairman of ASUS, was elected the Chairman of BCSD Taiwan in August 2021. As the Chairman and CEO of Taiwan’s biggest computer company, Mr. Shih is well aware of sustainability. Under his leadership, Mr. Shih has driven sustainability in various areas, including supply-chain management, climate leadership and social inclusion. With Mr. Shih’s visionary perspective, BCSD believes this would boost the progress of corporate sustainability in Taiwan, and further connect the council and the business community.

 Focus Area/ Activities :

  • Eco-efficiency
  • Corporate social responsibility (CSR)
  • GHG inventory, reduction and reporting
    • Introduce GHG protocol to Taiwanese Companies.
    • Since 2007, BCSD-Taiwan has started to promote Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) which works with shareholders and corporations to disclose the greenhouse gas emissions of major corporations.
    • Since 2012, BCSD-Taiwan has become the official partner with CDP.
  • Non-financial information reporting
    • Introduce the GRI G3/G3.1, Traditional Chinese version of GRI G4 in 2014, and Traditional Chinese version of GRI Standard will be launched in 2017.
    • Since 2013, BCSD-Taiwan has built a long-term relationship with GRI China Regional Hub.
    • Since 2014, BCSD-Taiwan has become the GRI Data Partner.
    • Introduce the Traditional Chinese version of the <IR> Framework in 2015.
    • Co-working with TWSE and GRI to publish Non-Financial Reporting Survey in Taiwan 2015 in 2016.
    • Became GRI Certificated Training Partner in 2016

  • Capacity building: Tomorrow Leader Sustainability College
    • since 2005, BCSD-Taiwan launched a member training program “Tomorrow Leader Sustainability College” which includes five core courses Eco-efficiency, CSR, Energy & Climate, Sustainability reporting and GHG inventory.
  • Taiwan Energy-saving Patrol Team / Taiwan Energy-saving Patrol Alliance
    • Help organizations to enhance their energy efficiency in business and production processes, to achieve Patrol Team’s core objectives of reducing carbon emissions and helping to alleviate global warming
  • Creation of several Sustainability indices in Taiwan:
    • Taiwan Labor Rights Index
    • TIP Taiwan Market CSR Small/Mid-Cap Index
    • TIP Taiwan TPEx ESG Index
    • TIP Customized TPEx ESG IT Elite Total Return Index
    • TIP Customized TPEx ESG Growth Total Return Index
    • TIP Customized TPEx ESG High Dividend Total Return Index
  • Signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with The Climate Group (TCG)
    • Promote global corporate initiative in Taiwan, including RE100, EP100, and EV100
  • Taiwan Sustainable Finance (TSF)
    • Set up sustainable finance-themed workshops and forums to cultivate professionals
    • Publication of the first Taiwan Sustainable Finance Survey
    • Seasonal sustainable finance newsletter
  • Business Actions on Climate Change initiatives (BACCi)
    • Climate change related workshops and trainings, including CDP, TCFD, GHG inventory, SBTi, application of PCAF
