Scaling-up renewable energy (RE) is a key solution to curb global carbon emissions. Corporations are uniquely positioned to scale-up renewable energy in the global electricity mix by meeting their own energy needs through renewable energy procurement. Leading corporations are investing in renewable energy procurement and breaking the perceived trade-off between environmental and economic value creation. This report addresses the three main barriers to renewable energy procurement as identified by a WBCSD survey earlier this year. In it, the group proposes practical solutions based on actual case studies of WBCSD companies who have managed to overcome these barriers in different working environments around the globe. The aim is to support the idea of scaling-up renewable energy by sharing the wealth of creative solutions that have been used to make it work.
