Geneva, 6 April 2017: Today, Archer Daniels Midland Company (NYSE: ADM) joins 200 forward-thinking companies as the newest member of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). As one of the largest food processors in the world, ADM has an important role to play in helping to incorporate health and sustainability into global food systems.

Juan Luciano, Chairman and CEO of ADM states, “As we continue making progress in providing quality nutrition to all, doing so in an environmentally friendly manner is very important. That is why, in 2015, we adopted a comprehensive no-deforestation policy covering both our palm and soy supply chains, and why we are working in partnership with great organizations like The Forest Trust to implement that policy. We’re proud to join WBCSD, which we believe will serve as an excellent platform for mobilizing business efforts toward these important goals across the agribusiness industry.”

Peter Bakker, President and CEO at WBCSD, also welcomes the new partnership, “We are pleased to welcome ADM into our membership. Nearly 100% of all food produced and consumed moves through the private sector. As one of the world’s largest food processors, ADM and companies like it have the potential to encourage sustainable practices across global food systems - we will not be able to feed 9 billion people by 2050 without them.”

ADM connects crops to markets on six continents, a global value chain that includes 500 crop procurement locations, 250 ingredient manufacturing facilities, and 38 innovation centers. The company employs 32,000 individuals worldwide and serves customers in more than 160 countries.
