Wellington, New Zealand, 14 June 2017: The Sustainable Business Council is welcoming the Dairy Action for Climate Change Plan announced today by Dairy NZ, Fonterra and the Minister for Climate Change, Paula Bennett.

Executive Director Abbie Reynolds says, "I am pleased to see the announcement of a cross-sector partnership of this scale – with the aim of helping New Zealand meet its Paris Agreement emissions reduction target".

"The agricultural sector contributes to 48% of New Zealand's emissions – so this work will have a key role to play, if we are to meet our 30% emissions reduction target by 2030".

Abbie Reynolds says, "It's really encouraging to see the agricultural sector working closely with government, different industry partners and urban communities.

"One sector alone cannot reduce emissions to a level that will keep global warming to within two degrees - we need collaboration across all sectors on this issue."

The Sustainable Business Council is WBCSD’s Global Network partner in New Zealand. The SBC is a division of Business New Zealand and has 91 members who have emissions reduction targets in place. SBC members are prioritizing action against climate change – working as individual organizations and together on energy efficiency projects, low carbon transport, social impact projects and more sustainable supply chains.
