The speed and the impact of COVID-19 pandemic across all geographies has resulted in many businesses being unable to function and has had unprecedented implications on employees, supply chains, cash flow and investor returns. It has highlighted the importance of effective and proportionate continuity planning for business resilience. As businesses consider the return to a new ‘normal’ activity level, WBCSD’s Return to New Normal – Employee Health and Business Recovery project will support members to understand and act to improve their vulnerability to a second wave of COVID-19, future global pandemics and a general guidance to potential other kinds of future shocks (impact of natural disasters, lockdowns in case of political unrest, etc.)

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of effective and proportionate continuity and business resilience planning. Business will need to return to a new ‘normal’ activity level and understand implications, act to reduce their vulnerability, strengthen resilience and develop their response. The challenge we are trying to address is to maintain the physical and mental health of employees during the confinement and beyond, planning a gradual and coordinated come back to the new normal and increasing company resilience.
The need for an online repository to share emerging practices was identified as a common deliverable from the webinars we held with our members. As a result, we have undertaken the task to develop a COVID-19 Shared Knowledge Repository where we will centrally collect business practices on the employee health and business recovery, among other topics. We envision this resource as an enabler for member companies to share their experience and learn from others’ examples.
With this central repository we aim to support companies as they seek to maintain the health and wellbeing of employees and their families through confinement, for subsequent waves of COVID-19 and their return to the workplace.
At the same time, through additional relevant guidance and supplemental resources on how business will return to the ‘new’ normal, we believe we can enhance the value in this area to our members and beyond.
