Science-based targets for the buildings and construction sector

Buildings and construction together account for 36% of global final energy use and 39% of energy-related CO2 emissions (when including upstream power generation). Buildings sector energy intensity (in terms of energy use per m2) continues to improve at an annual average rate of around 1.5%. Yet, global floor area continues to grow by about 2.3% per annum, offsetting those energy intensity improvements. (GlobalABC “Global Status Report 2017”)

The Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction (GlobalABC) was formed during COP21 in Paris to bring together all relevant actors to work together to achieve the Paris Agreement in this sector.
