Zero Emissions Cities

In the Zero Emissions Cities project, eight WBCSD members worked together from 2015-17 to jointly drive concrete CO2 emissions reduction projects that help a city get on a pathway to zero net emissions. The project focused primarily on energy, buildings and transport, but it also responded to wider demands and sustainability priorities of a city.

  • ZOEnergy Amsterdam – a public-private intermediary organization that takes on the identification, planning and execution of low-carbon projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • LEEP San Diego – Engaging local businesses on the city’s climate action plan, identifying benefits for private sector actions, and exploring a low-carbon development demonstration project.
  • Zero Emissions City Birmingham Smithfield – Integrating ambitious low-carbon objectives in the planning requirements of a new district including support for the implementation phase.

Future city engagements will be undertaken through the LEEP project.
