Today, more than half the global population lives in cities, and by 2050 more than two-thirds will. City life drives 80% of total global energy and resource demand and 70% of greenhouse gas emissions.

A well-designed city can open the way to WBCSD’s vision of creating a world in which more than nine billion people live well and within the limits of the planet, offering opportunities for a good quality lifestyle with a lower footprint.

Program structure

WBCSD engages Cities and businesses in three ways:

  • CityTrends: Sharing of best practices and business and city initiatives related to the most important urban trends;
  • CitySolutions: Collaborative projects involving cities and businesses, currently focusing on buildings, mobility and low-emission economies;
  • CityDialogue: Offering a platform for multi-business, multi-city dialogues on strategic topics, at the leadership and the technical level.
