Collaboration among business, government and civil society is essential in dealing with global issues which increasingly affect business, such as poverty. The WBCSD Development Focus Area collaborates with the following organizations:
Asian Development Bank
The WBCSD is member of the Steering Committee of the Energy for All Partnership, aimed at significantly increasing access to sustainable energy services in the Asia-Pacific region by 2015. In addition, we collaborate with ADB in the framework of its Asia-wide technical assistance project on Inclusive Business at the Base of the Pyramid.
Energy Access Partnership
Jointly with Eskom, Vattenfall and others, the WBCSD is a founding member of the Energy Access Partnership, a non-for-profit company to accelerate energy access in rural Africa, based in Johannesburg. The company aims to act as a broker between private sector utilities, governments and international finance institutions. It also aims to set up a Rural Energy Fund to finance a sustainable energy access project.
Harvard Kennedy School of Government’s CSR Initiative
Reviewed the WBCSD’s Measuring Impact Framework as part of the external stakeholder group; regular collaboration on inclusive business.
Inter-American Development Bank
Strategic partnership initiated in late 2007 in view of catalyzing, executing and scaling up inclusive business opportunities across Latin America.
International Business Leaders Forum
The WBCSD and IBLF co-created the Guide to Development Actors in 2004; it was expanded into an online version in 2006.
International Finance Corporation
Co-branded the WBCSD's Measuring Impact Framework, regular collaboration on inclusive business.
SNV Netherlands Development Organization
Following the initial focus of the WBCSD-SNV Alliance for Inclusive Business on Latin American countries, the WBCSD and SNV are kicking off some activities in Asia and southern Africa.
United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)
The WBCSD is member of the Advisory Group to the Development Cooperation Forum (DCF) on aid effectiveness; the WBCSD is also member of the business steering committee that provides business input into the Financing for Development process (Monterrey consensus 2002, Doha conference late 2008).
United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)
The WBCSD is a member of the Advisory Board of the UNDP Growing Inclusive Markets Initiative. We also collaborate with the Business Call to Action on the Millennium Development Goals, a global initiative managed by UNDP.
