Energy Efficiency in Buildings Executive Brief #2 - Our vision: A world where buildings consume zero net energy
Buildings are responsible for about 40% of energy use in most countries. The EEB project will determine which combination of recommendations will most effectively result in substantial energy and emission reductions, putting us on a committed path towards zero net energy buildings.
A model has been developed that allows holistic, financial, and behavioral levers combined with policy and external factors to be quantitatively assessed at the sub-market level in terms of market adoption and uptake of increased energy efficiency in buildings over the next 50 years.
This powerful approach allows EEB to look forward at likely levels of building energy consumption and CO2 levels under different market and policy forecast conditions. A report is due in early 2009.
The EEB project will end up with an “Building Sector Manifesto” supported widely by the business community and leading to measurable commitments by EEB core group companies and WBCSD members.
