Background information
Oebu, the Swiss Sustainable Business Network, was founded in 1989, evolving from a student’s initiative at the University of St. Gallen. Today, the association encompasses more than 400 Swiss companies to further develop business activities towards a more sustainable future. The members are convinced that in order to maintain the power to compete on international markets, companies have to integrate ecological and social aspects into their corporate culture.  Successful companies have to take into account the far reaching structural changes in the economic framework in order to remain competitive on the long run. The impact reduction on the environment and the society is a welcome and wanted secondary benefit.

Taking a broad approach, Oebu involves all aspects of sustainability. Economical, social and environmental aspects are of equal importance. Nationally and internationally well connected, Oebu is a center of excellence for sustainable business development.

Focus Area/ Activities
Oebu’s goal is to strengthen the innovative capacity and the competitive ability of the Swiss economy in the long term. To reach this goal, Oebu liaises between companies, the administration, associations, media and the public. The organization campaigns for framework requirements that support the conversion of the current economy without loosing track of the business needs of its members. Oebu not only acts as a think tank that frames the sustainable development, it also offers various state of the art tools and platforms to support companies and to promote the interaction between them.  The conjunctive element of all activities is: “Turn challenges into chances!”
